The races started late because thick fog hung over the regatta course in the morning. Originally, 1000-meter races were planned, but due to the fog, the races were shortened to 500 meters.
Our mixed 8+ competed in the first race against Bocconi, two boats from Armida (two Italian universities), and HEC, a French university. It was an exciting race, and the mixed 8+ fought its way to fourth place. Unfortunately, the time was not enough to qualify for the final in the afternoon.
Next up was the W8+ from the University of Vienna, which took first place in the preliminary round with a lead of 8 seconds. The final was held in the afternoon. The five best boats from the preliminary rounds in the morning competed in the final. The final was a very exciting race. The W8+ got off to a strong start and was neck and neck with the HEC boat. But in the last 50 meters, the tide turned and the boat from APT, a French university, put in an incredible final sprint and fought its way to first place. Our W8+ finished second. What a race!
In addition to the exciting races, it was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen international friendships and promote exchange with other universities. It was a successful and great weekend for the athletes of the university rowing club, and we are looking forward to the next ESCP Eurowings Regatta with motivation!
