Participation at European College of Sport Science Conference in Rimini 2025

25.08.2025

The 30th European College of Sport Science (ECSS) conference took place in Rimini, Italy, from 1 to 4 July. In one of Europe's largest exhibition centres, 3,000 participants from over 60 countries came together to present and discuss the latest findings from various areas of sports science. Topics covered included the influence of the climate crisis on sport, the treatment of all genders in competitive sport, and the optimal amount of strength training for endurance or speed athletes. Exciting biomechanical topics were also on the agenda at the congress.

Our institute gave some interesting presentations in our specialised field:

  • Philipp Kornfeind presented "Validation of computer vision based kinematic analysis using lateral view videos in ergometer rowing“
  • Lena Lauxtermann “Influence of the menstrual cycle on far metabolism during submaximal endurance exercise in active,, eumenorrheic women”
  • Julian Moser “Ibuprofen intake prior to intense endurance exercise might not trigger LPS-mediated systemic inflammation in healthy male athletes: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study”
  • Alexander Pürzel “Muscle force dynamics across increasing squat intensity conditions in elite powerlifters”
  • Gustavo Schaun “Aging effects on muscle size and strength: A comparison of masticatory and locomotor muscles”
  • Michelle Slunecko “The acute effects of sleep fragmentation on neuromuscular performance”
  • Tamara Stelzer “Blood lipids and oxidative stress marker in response to a fatmax test in hyperbilirubinemia subjects with Gilbert’s syndrome”
  • Hacker Marcel had a poster presentation about 'Lower-body muscle forces during preferred and non-preferred deadlift techniques in powerlifters'.

In addition, the audience included Arnold Baca, Robert Csapo, Barbara Wessner, who acted as co-authors and session chairs. We are proud to announce that at the end of the conference Barbara Wessner took on a position as a member of the Executive Board of ECSS.

We are all really looking forward to next year's congress in Lausanne.
